Holiday park IJsselhof is located in one of the most beautiful water sports areas in the Netherlands. Less than a kilometre from the park you will find the beach of Andijk on the IJsselmeer, part of the De Vooroever recreation area. Andijk marina is within walking distance, and within half an hour you can be at the official kitesurfing spots near Medemblik and Schellinkhout or in the sailing town of Medemblik. On this page you can read where you can windsurf, sail and SUP in the area, including the rules for each spot and why Holiday park IJsselhof is the ideal base for your water sports holiday. Centrally located on the IJsselmeer and the many inland waters in the area, the possibilities are endless.
The beach of Andijk is in the De Vooroever recreation area and is a popular spot among windsurfers and kitesurfers. In the sheltered bay on the IJsselmeer you can still stand quite a way out from the shore, and thanks to the open location there is often good wind. The spot works with many different wind directions. From Holiday park IJsselhof you can get there by bike in a few minutes. By car you can park free of charge close to the water.
You can also windsurf well at De Vooroever near Medemblik. The water there is shallow enough to stand in up to about 300 metres from the shore, with sandbanks in the first part. The best wind directions here are north to east. In a north-easterly wind the typical short, steep IJsselmeer waves build up, great for those who like bump-and-jump.
Good to know:
In the Netherlands, kitesurfing is only allowed at designated locations. West Friesland has two officially designated kitesurfing spots, and both are close to the park. Please note: kitesurfing is not allowed at the beach of Andijk itself.
About 10 kilometres from the park, at De Vooroever near Medemblik, you will find the Nesbos kite spot on the IJsselmeer. The wind here is usually offshore, which makes the spot extra challenging. You mainly ride here with wind from the north, north-east and east, directions that many other Dutch spots cannot handle. The water is shallow and flat, with a small beach to launch your kite.
About a 25-minute drive away is the best-known kite spot in the region: the Uiterdijk near Schellinkhout, on the Markermeer. The recreation board created a dedicated kitesurfing beach here in spring 2021. The wind is usually onshore and thanks to the gently sloping bottom you can walk hundreds of metres into the Markermeer; ideal for practising your water start and making quick progress.
The modern marina of Andijk is within walking distance of the park and has room for around 600 sailing boats. Coming with your own (motor) boat? You can easily launch it with car and trailer via the slipway. From the harbour you sail straight out onto the IJsselmeer; the Wadden Sea and the Frisian lakes are within reach for a lovely day trip.
Want to rent a sailing yacht yourself? At Andijk Zeiljacht Verhuur in the harbour you can rent a well-maintained sailing yacht of 9 to 15 metres. From Andijk you hoist the sails straight away, without locks or bridges. Prefer a sailing trip with an experienced skipper? Ask at our reception on arrival about the current options.
Want to experience sailing for yourself? With Kulu Zeiltochten you take an active part on board and learn to sail as you go.
A fifteen-minute drive away is Medemblik, internationally known as a sailing town. The Regatta Center on the Vooroever regularly hosts (inter)national sailing races. Until 2021 the Allianz Regatta was held in Medemblik. Medemblik also has sailing schools and rental options for those who want to get out on the water themselves. Combine a day of sailing with a visit to the charming harbour and historic centre.
